Iron Butterfly Pilates™ is a certified personal pilates training studio. We cater to each client’s individual needs in both private settings and small group classes. Heather Obleada


Heather Obleada’s passion for movement has led her through a career of dancing, choreographing and teaching. She grew up performing with The Charleston Ballet, received her B.A. in Dance from Radford University and continued her studies with The Alvin Ailey Dance Theater and Martha Graham School in New York. She taught ballet, choreographed, and developed the modern dance program with Jami Masters in Charlotte, NC and danced professionally with Brouseau Danceworks and American Dance Art. She graduated with her pilates certification from Body Awareness in Atlanta, GA and with her yoga certification from The Bodhi Tree En Yoga Teacher Training program in Charlotte. Heather’s lifelong passion paved the road to Iron Butterfly Pilates, which she founded in 2005. Iron Butterfly has since dedicated itself to being a place for everyone, from professional athletes to busy moms, to find their Strength from Within.

Kim Chapple


Kim Chapple grew up in South Africa where she attended the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, receiving her bachelors degree in Sport Science and her honours degree in Biokinetics. She was introduced to Pilates during her internship year at a Sports Rehabilitation Clinic and has been hooked ever since. She lived in London, England for 7 years where she taught Pilates full time while continuing her Pilates education through the BASI method. Kim moved to Charlotte in June 2013 and is excited and honored to be apart of the IBP family.

Eva DeBrun


Eva’s desire to combine graceful movement with strength has taken her down a path of teaching different forms of group exercise. She studied dance and graduated with a BA from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She taught many types of group exercise classes before discovering Pilates where she finally found that perfect meld of grace, fluidity and strength. Eva received her Pilates certification from Joyful Movement and has been teaching Pilates in the Charlotte area for eleven years. She is PMA certified, has completed her yoga instructor training and Pilates instructor training with AFAA. Eva holds a comprehensive 500 hour Pilates certification from Balancepoint Pilates as well as certifications in Balancepoint Barre and Core Reform Smart Movement. Her passion is working with others and helping them discover the love for Pilates that she has.

Erin Dugan


Erin holds a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Dayton, a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Loyola University Chicago, and a Masters Degree in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania. As a critical care Nurse Practitioner, Erin sees the effectiveness not only of modern medicine, but recognizes the importance of preventive medicine for the body and mind. Throughout her academic career, Pilates was always at the forefront of her life, keeping her connected through mind and body. Erin has been practicing Pilates with Iron Butterfly since 2006, and with a sense of passion and purpose decided to pursue her Pilates Teaching Certification. Erin will soon be graduating from the Balanced Body Pilates Training Program. She is honored to join the Iron Butterfly Team where she can help clients feel stronger, leaner, and longer!

Megan Gelabert


Megan Gelabert-McGee uses her extensive dance background as an integral part of her Pilates instruction. She grew up dancing with the Pas de Vie Ballet Co. in Tallahassee, FL and also studied with Boston Ballet, Southern Ballet Theater, Joffrey Ballet and the Harid Conservatory. She spent two years in FSU’s Department of Dance (go NOLES!) before relocating to NYC. While dancing professionally with Linda Diamond and Co. and Bodiography Contemporary Ballet, Megan discovered classical Pilates at The New York Pilates Studio. She completed her 600 hour apprenticeship with Jennifer Kries/The Method and became fully certified in 2004, making her a third generation Pilates instructor under Joseph Pilates. Megan moved to Charlotte in 2006 and soon after became one of the original butterflies of Iron Butterfly Pilates. She began her yoga studies, taking several workshops with recognized anatomy instructors and receiving her 200 hour yoga teacher training in 2012. Recently she passed her exam to be certified through the Pilates Method Alliance – an internationally recognized professional association and certifying agency, and a prestigious credential for Pilates instructors. Not only is she thrilled to share her passion for movement in a fun yet nurturing studio, she eagerly anticipates sharing it with her proudest accomplishment thus far – her daughter Avery.

Katy Payne


Katy Payne grew up in Sparta, New Jersey, where she was an avid athlete on the tennis, ski, and track team. East Carolina University brought Katy to the south where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Merchandising. Upon graduation, Katy landed in the banking industry, where she pursued a full time career for almost two decades. An unfortunate spinal injury, followed by spinal surgery, led Katy to Pilates. After years of taking Pilates classes, and seeing the benefits both physically and mentally in her own body, Katy decided she was ready to share those benefits with others. She decided on a career change and became comprehensively certified with the Pilates Academy International, headquartered in NYC. She also holds certifications in Balancepoint Barre and Core Reform Smart Movement. Katy brings to Iron Butterfly Pilates her positive energy, a love of Pilates, and a passion for teaching. Katy’s loves are her husband Randy, his boys Reed and Ryan, her two fur babies, Louie and Cam, golfing, running, and playing tennis.

Joelle Herman


Joelle has a true and educated passion for health and fitness. She graduated from Virginia Tech with a major in Health Education and a minor in Exercise Science. She holds a Bachelor of Nursing degree from Radford University, is certified to teach group exercise, and is an accomplished triathlete. Joelle completed her Comprehensive Pilates Certification with Balancepoint Pilates and is also certified through the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA), the most prestigious and internationally recognized professional association and certifying agency. Joelle is excited to be a part of the IBP team and help incorporate the principles of Pilates into her client’s everyday lives.

Erin Toy

Physical Therapist, Trainer

Dr. Erin Laurie graduated with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from The University of North Carolina in 2010. During her graduate years, her research focus was on Pilates Based Physical Therapy. Dr. Laurie began teaching Pilates in 2007 and continued her 900-hour certification with The Pilates Center during the completion of her graduate program. Dr. Laurie shadowed under another Pilates Based Physical Therapist and soon realized the unlimited potential patients receive from the addition of Pilates to traditional Physical Therapy. It is Dr. Laurie’s mission to assist patients in realizing their true physical potential, which in turn will promote healing, and the restoration of health.

Lauren Skrabalak


After years of dancing professionally and teaching for Bodiography Contemporary Ballet in Pittsburgh, Lauren Suflita Skrabalak brought her knowledge and passion for movement to Charlotte. Originally from upstate New York, her dance training led her to the University of Utah where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ballet. Realizing the benefits of Pilates to her own training, Lauren gained her Pilates Mat certification through PowerHouse Pilates and is currently working towards her apparatus certification through Balanced Body University. Most recently, she earned her Master of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, is an Adjunct Professor at Winthrop University and is also part of the faculty at the Charlotte Ballet Academy. Lauren is proud to be a part of Iron Butterfly Pilates ™ and the mission it upholds.

Kelly Ann Walker


Growing up as a competitive gymnast and water skier, Kelly Walker caught the exercise bug from an early age. After graduating from the University of California with a BA in Economics, Kelly went on to become a full-time personal trainer with a certification from AFAA. Sometime between running marathons and competing in Iron Man races throughout the US, Kelly found the joys and benefits of Iron Butterfly Pilates. In 2011 Kelly gained her pilates mat, reformer and apparatus certificates with Balanced Body University and is excited to enter the next phase of her fitness journey.

Kai Griffin


Kai Griffin, a creative, innovative and intensely trained wellness professional specializing in trendsetting fitness and beauty; Kai’s expertise and principles, brought to the Iron Butterfly Pilates team, span over 15 years, 16 countries and 4 continents. A crackerjack ace in his industries, Kai has an innate ability to connect, engage and motivate people with his finely tuned fortes: knowledge and humor. Kai completed his comprehensive Pilates training through Balanced Body. He holds other Group Exercise certifications through ACE (American Council on Exercise) and AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America) and is a registered Continuing Education Provider for both. When not teaching and training in the fitness world, Kai spends his time in the world of beauty. While happily maintaining a devoted salon clientele, Kai’s hair and makeup work has been featured at: New York Fashion Week, Miami Fashion Week, Sundance Film Festival, The Democratic National Convention and Cannes Film Festival, to name a few. With the ability to combine his two passions, fitness and beauty, into one reticulate career, Kai considers himself “one of the luckiest guys in the world”.

Krissy Ortale


Krissy brings to Iron Butterfly Pilates her joy of movement, fitness, happiness, and overall health.  She earned a Bachelor of Science in Public Health degree in Nutrition from UNC Gillings School of Public Health.  She then went on to pursue her graduate degree in Physical Therapy, and now holds a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree, also from UNC (Go Heels!).  During PT school, she concentrated her research on Pilates-based Physical Therapy and began her 450-hour certification with The Pilates Center.  Krissy is excited to share her passion for Pilates at IBP and to use her education and experience to optimize her client’s quality of movement and quality of life. In her free time, Krissy loves spending time with her soon-to-be husband Michael and her family and friends, cooking, dancing, and cheering on the Tar Heels!

Izarely Lopez

Studio Receptionist

Izarely recently graduated from David W. Butler High School, and is aspiring to obtain her degree in forensic science/criminology.  She is a people person, fluent in both Spanish and English.  Izarely is passionate about music, from classical to pop, and is an amazing viola player.  In her free time you’ll find her reading thrillers and mysteries, painting, and drawing lifestyle pictures.


Sara Moran

Pilates Apprentice

Sara Moran,  a Charlotte native, graduated from The University of the South with a BS in Psychology and Business. Sara is passionate about exercise and fitness, as well as helping others feel strong and confident in their own skin. Sara fell in love with Pilates after taking a mat class at Iron Butterfly Pilates. From there, she began her Pilates journey which has helped her find balance and strength in her life. In December 2017, Sara began her comprehensive Pilates certification through Balanced Body University and expects to complete it in November 2018. This fall, Sara will attend Vanderbilt University to receive her MSN to become a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. She hopes to one day incorporate her Pilates practice into her patient care while treating women in the pre and post natal phases of life.

Tarraneh Dadgar

Studio Receptionist

An athletic scholarship for Ice Hockey landed Tarraneh at St. Norbert’s College in De Pere, Wisconsin. She graduated with her degree in biology with a concentration in biomedical science.  Tarraneh, “T” is a CrossFit L1 and CrossFit Gymnastics certified coach, a personal trainer, and nutritional advisor.  T also has extensive management experience, which along with her driven personality, brought her to Iron Butterfly.  T is excited to be part of the family as a studio receptionist.

Allison Broglie

Allison grew up in Ellicott City, Maryland, a suburb of Baltimore. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Mary Washington in Virginia and Master of Business Administration from Loyola University Maryland. After years of playing competitive sports including lacrosse in college and running marathons and half marathons, Allison was looking for a form of movement that incorporated the entire body and made her feel good both mentally and physically. After discovering Pilates and all the amazing benefits it provides, she knew she wanted to be able to bring all the joy she finds from Pilates to others. Allison is currently working on her comprehensive Pilates’ certification through Balanced Body. She is extremely grateful to be part of the Iron Butterfly team where she has met incredible people and has been able to grow her Pilates’ knowledge.

Bridget Kelly

Dr. Bridget Kelly obtained her BA in Dance Science from Elon University and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Kentucky. Bridget has always been fascinated with biomechanics and injury prevention and truly enjoys helping people rehabilitate from injuries. Bridget has utilized Pilates throughout her career and finds it to be the perfect adjunct to manual therapy technics. She holds Pilates certifications through Power Pilates and Balance Body.

Lindsay Dufresne

Lindsay was raised in upstate NY. Growing up in a family that had a magnet on their fridge that said, “Did you go to the gym today?”, athletics and movement were a part of her daily life. Realizing her dream of being a Radio City Music Hall Rockette was just that, she was able to fulfill her passion for dance through her high school majorette squad.
After graduating from Marist College in New York as a Communications Major, she soon relocated to Miami to pursue a professional career in public relations. Realizing she needed an outlet to explore her passion for fitness, she obtained her Spinning and Barre certifications, and taught part-time at exhale Miami for several years.
After leaving Miami, she moved to Palm Beach and discovered Pilates at a boutique studio where she also taught barre class. Always intrigued to learn something new, Lindsay decided to pursue her 600-hour Classical Pilates Education certification. As a recent transplant to Charlotte, Lindsay is so happy the Iron Butterfly Pilates family has welcomed her with open wings. She recently completed her comprehensive Pilates certification and looks forward to sharing her love for movement with the Queen City.

Elisabeth Bartczak

Elisabeth (Lis) has always loved movement and being active. With a background in competitive
swimming, she knew from a young age she wanted to incorporate exercise into her career and
her daily life. Lis earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and her Bachelor of Science in
Health Science degree from the University of Miami. Her work experience spans diverse patient
populations with a focus in the acute care (hospital) setting. She discovered Pilates during her
graduate work in Miami when she took several classes offered by Brent Anderson, founder of
Polestar Pilates. This inspired her to enroll in the Polestar Comprehensive Series to continue her learning and practice of Pilates. Lis moved to Charlotte in 2017, where she lives with her
husband and their rescue dog, Jax. She believes that humans are designed to move and that
Pilates provides the means to increase strength and flexibility, enhance the mind-body
connection and improve quality of life. Lis is very excited to continue her Pilates journey at Iron Butterfly Pilates.

Yolanda Chisolm

Yoga Instructor

Yolanda “Yaya” Chisolm has two passions: teaching preschool (24 years) and yoga. Yolanda’s Baptiste vinyasa style yoga journey began in 2008.  After diving into her own personal practice, and seeing both the physical and mental benefits, she knew she needed to bring yoga to children. Yolanda became certified in the Grounded Kids Yoga method and then developed her own business,  Yaya’s Yoga, LLC. Yolanda is happy to be a part of the Iron Butterfly Pilates team, offering her own niche of yoga to children ages 3-5.  “I look forward to sharing my passions with your children. Together we will learn the physical practice of yoga, embrace mindfulness and most importantly, Have Fun.”

Annie Totten

Annie combines her passion and appreciation for the practice of yoga with her love of children and the role they play in our world. After years in corporate retail, and running her own children’s boutique, Annie has settled into what she believes is her life’s purpose, to ignite and spread the light and love that each child has within. Annie is certified with the Grounded Kids Yoga program and currently teaches at various studios throughout Charlotte.
